Back-to-School Tech Advice for College Students

By  |

If you are just getting back into school, then there are a few ways you’re going to want to update your tech game. This is the best way to hit the ground running from the very first day. Here is some back-to-school tech advice for college students.

Buy an External Hard Drive

If you don’t already have an external hard drive, then you’re going to need to get one. If you have one that is almost full, then you are going to want to get another one. There’s nothing worse than trying to complete an assignment late at night and finding out that you don’t have enough storage. If you want to avoid having to spend long hours going through your internal hard drive and deleting files that you would otherwise keep, get yourself an external hard drive.

Have Your Laptop Serviced

If you go to an online school, like GW Online, then you are going to be doing all of your college work on your laptop. That’s why it’s so important that your laptop is in tip top shape. So if you’ve been on vacation for the past couple of months, be sure that you take your laptop in to get a little tune up before you jump back into the next semester. You never know what might be lurking in that thing.

Keep Your Computer Light

One of the biggest reasons why to buy an external hard drive is because you want to keep your computer light. Do you ever start to hear your computer fan going off and it starts sounding like a CPAP machine? That is usually an indication that you have far too much data clogging your storage and your computer has to work extremely hard to make it all easily available to you. This can slow things down and even cause certain programs to crash unexpectedly. So make sure that you drag files that you don’t use very often into your external hard drive when you can.

Download Your Textbooks

If you really want to be able to study at any time of the day no matter where you are, then you are going to want to see if you can download digital copies of your textbooks instead of buying (much more expensive) hard copies. This will make it easy to carry all of your books with you at all times, and if you have a tablet, then you don’t have to worry about heavy books ever again. You can easily jump from book to book without having to be weighed down by anything.

Get a Dictation App

One of the best apps for any college student is a dictation app. There’s a lot of them these days that very easily type out everything that you say without making any silly mistakes that will confuse you later on. If you have to write a speech, you can easily practice saying the words into your phone and then you can read them back to yourself when you go to practice. You can also use the app to record your notes while studying, rather than typing them out.
